Cores, Corridors and Koalas: A Collaborative Approach to Restoring the Forests of Eastern Australia

Two koalas in tree

Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance is proud to announce we are partnering with Great Eastern Ranges and WWF-Australia for a third year to deliver Cores, Corridors and Koalas in the Coffs Coast Hinterland – a project to restore and connect critical habitat for forest-dependent native animals

 This year’s efforts will focus on the Dorrigo plateau where we found evidence of healthy Koala populations at both of the areas surveyed by wildlife scent detection dogs in year 2. We see this as a great opportunity to consolidate koala habitat & safeguard this important population of the species on the Dorrigo Plateau.

 The collaboration aims to restore and reconnect habitat and support the movement of wildlife through the landscape by:

  • planting 3 500 plants across 5 properties.;
  • encouraging more landholders to sign up for the Land for Wildlife program;
  • engaging with local Indigenous groups to restore habitat for wildlife, and
  • running educational events & field days.

This project is supported through a partnership between the Great Eastern Ranges and the World Wide Fund for Nature-Australia as part of a broader bushfire recovery effort.
