Canine scent detectives promoting koala population health in Coffs coast corridors

The project aims to assess the genetic diversity and genetic movement of koalas, surveys to collect fresh koala scat will be undertaken by canine scent detection dogs within mapped koala habitat areas within Coffs Coast landscape corridors.

The target area for this study is within koala linkages located at Roberts Hill, City Hill, Coffs Creek, Coffs Botanical Gardens, Korora and Woolgoolga. This project builds on previous koala scat genetic studies occurring in 2020-21 in Sawtell, Toormina, Boambee East and Bonville peri urban and semi-rural areas.
