Dolmans Point Littoral Rainforest Restoration

Google map of Dolmans Point Sawtell

This project will enable the strategic rehabilitation of Littoral Rainforest located specifically at Dolmans Point Reserve, Sawtell. The primary focus of this project will be to undertake weed management and revegetation actions to facilitate recovery and restore the ecological function of Littoral Rainforest heavily impacted by invasive weed species after the 2021 hailstorm. Staged approach to ecological restoration will be implemented over an area of 5 ha through a collaboration of Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance, Coffs Harbour Aboriginal ranger team, Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare and City of Coffs Harbour. The on ground strategic weed management actions will benefit landscape connections between larger areas of habitat, ensuring corridors for migration, colonisation and interbreeding of plants and animals.

The project area contains 8 vegetation communities. Threatened ecological communities covers approximately 46% (9.96ha) of the site with

  • 0.21ha of Swamp Sclerophyll Forest on Coastal Floodplain,
  • 0.58ha of Swamp Oak Floodplain Forest, and
  • 9.18ha of Littoral Rainforest.

Threatened flora and fauna at the site includes Scented Acronychia and Koala.

This is an initiative funded by the City of Coffs Harbour, as part of the Environmental Levy Grants Program.
