The Southern Pink Underwing Moth is listed as Endangered by the Australian and NSW governments and its specific food plant Carronia multisepalea is found in two disjunct regions; the NSW Northern Rivers and Bellinger-Orara in the NSW Mid North Coast. The moth is considered a secure species in the NSW Northern Rivers, while in the Coffs Harbour region, weed control and rainforest rehabilitation would ensure its persistence.
Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance will work in partnership with public land managers, government agencies and local community groups to undertake actions to assist with
conservation outcomes for the Southern Pink Underwing Moth (Phyllodes imperialis smithersi) in the Coffs Harbour Local Government Areas.
The project activities will focus on known locations of the moth found in Critically Endangered Lowland Rainforest of Subtropical Australia in Bindarii NP and Bongil Bongil NP where there is a localised population along Pine Creek. Other Lowland Rainforest locations containing important populations impacted by major weed infestation includes the Orara Valley.
